Hexham Junior Section had an enjoyable Sunday morning competing for The Dave Cave Memorial Trophy. The Trophy was donated by Hexham Golf Club 19 years ago in memory of Dave Cave who did a lot for the junior section at Hexham.
In true spirit of what Dave achieved the trophy is competed for by teams of juniors of all ages and abilities. The trophy is always keenly contested and this year was no exception. There were 4 teams with 4 members per team. Each match consisted of two games of 11 points per game, and to add extra incentive each point won counted towards the team totals.
There was some additional edge at the end of the competition when Paul Satow, Hexham 1st Team player, stepped into the breach to cover a space in one of the teams and played all the Team Captains to make sure everyone played 3 matches.
After 24 matches, only 15 points separated the 4 teams which shows just how keenly the teams competed. In the end, the trophy was won by “The Blue Team” of Luke Radley, William Marrow, Abi Marrow and Seth Marston.
The trophy was presented to the winning team straight after the match and will be re-presented at the Club’s main Presentation Evening on 25 March. The morning ended with traditional sausage and chips and thanks to Russell Wilson and his team for the refreshments.
Congratulations to all the juniors who competed in an excellent spirit, and thanks to those parents who supported, Paul Satow for organising the entries and Sophie Curtis who managed the event during the morning.
